Volunteer with Freedom Farms

Come learn permaculture farming techniques, help build a regenerative tropical farm, and experience the Island of Enchantment.

The Program

A working farm stay for people who want their learning to be physical.

This is a semi-structured volunteer experience for curious beginners, practical builders, gardeners, travelers, and aspiring permaculture practitioners. The goal is simple: bring good people to the farm, teach what we are learning, and turn that energy into visible progress.

Smart teams keep the work personal and practical.

3 Week

25 hrs/wk

5 hrs/day minimum

Focused morning work blocks leave room for island life.

Goals

What volunteers are here to do

Learn regenerative systems

Spend time inside living examples of food forests, contour-aware planting, composting, soil coverage, nursery starts, and low-input tropical agriculture.

Build with the crew

Join practical work days that help move the farm forward: planting, mulching, pruning, water flow improvements, harvest support, and site care.

Experience Puerto Rico

Use the farm as a base for a grounded island experience: mountain air, local food, community connections, beach days, and the rhythm of rural life.

Field Rhythm

A sample day on the farm

Exact schedules shift with weather and project needs. Most days protect the productive morning window, then open up after lunch because early afternoon rain is part of the rhythm here.

7-8 AM

Gather + orient

Coffee, weather check, team assignments, and a quick read on what the land needs that morning.

Morning

Focused farm work

Planting, mulching, pruning, nursery work, soil building, trail cleanup, or infrastructure until roughly 12-1 PM.

Afternoon

Open time

Lunch, rest, optional light projects, fun builds, or short day trips around the island before the afternoon rain settles in.

7-8 PM

Group dinner

Regroup for dinner, stories from the day, planning notes, and whatever fresh ideas the crew brings to the table.
